What area of Ohio did this happen?
there was a co visit in ohio a couple weeks ago.
when he was finishing up his sunday talk he said that he would like if "all the children that are from this congregation, not if you're just visiting, but from this congregation to come on up on the stage right after the meeting because i want to get a picture of you.".
i thought to myself, why?

i had a deep conversation with my elder father today about the bible.
first i talked to him about luke 16:19-31. the one where jesus makes this crazy illustration regarding the afterlife.
of course he had to look it up on the watchtower library to be spoon fed his beliefs.
@ sir82: "And yet, somehow, that "due time" never comes."
Quote of the day right there.
can anyone tell me when, and why jehovahs witnesses hold evening gala,s / ball with full tuxedo,s and evening gowns ?
is it uk only as i have heard family throughout the uk attend these events (jw only) of course !.
what is the purpose of these events and how long have the dubs being doing so ?
We used to have them when I was growing up. I went to a few. The invitations clearly stated that the guys had to wear tuxedos. So my buddy and I show up wearing tuxedos and guess what? We were the only ones wearing them. We just blew $100+ on tux rentals. WTF? The whole event was lame anyway. The event was a freakin' dude ranch, hardly any sisters.
suffice to say that i fundamentally disagree with the point of this article, a cynical attempt to boost numbers.
it goes against bible precedent and their own long standing practice.
they timothy as an example of a youthfull christian, a young man.. sure but he was not baptized young .

"They are old white men."
You're forgetting Sammy Herd.
by the time i finish this post, i will have turned 50 years old.
i spent over 40 years of my life not celebrating my birthday, and it never seemed like a big deal to me.
three years ago, i received a cake and some friends sang "happy birthday" to me at a dinner party that was for a different event.
Happy birthday! I'm in my 30's and I never even had a birthday cake. Wow.
i consider myself an atheist.
and right now i'm reading a lot on atheism in general (books written to answer creationists).. i'd be interested in knowing how you became an atheist after leaving the jws and how long did it take?
was it instant or did your belief in a deity gradually decline?.
I thought as recently as 2009 that the dubs had it right. Only when I became "inactive" did it completely sink in that was all a cruel joke. I currently feel that if (and I do mean if) there is a “higher being” out there, he/she/it doesn’t care about us. I can’t say that I’m an atheist yet, but I may not be far off.
i am posting this in this section (child abuse) because of the impact the catholic church has on what transpires in the religio-socio-legal realm that the jws are also embroiled in, concerning institutional abuses.. the catholic church is not willing to apologize for their role in the horrific abuses that occurred in canada in the residential school system for the canadian indigenous population.. for anyone who is interested in background on this dark chapter of canadian history, the truth and reconciliation report is available here - it is a hefty volume that is very difficult to read and it is the result of a royal commission on aboriginal peoples.. the pope has refused to offer an apology and it has become a controversial subject in canadian politics:.
'no government tells the pope what to say': priest defends lack of apology for residential schools.
a canadian priest is defending pope francis' decision not to apologize to indigenous people in canada for the role the catholic church played in the residential school system.about 150,000 first nation, inuit and métis children were taken from their parents by law and forced to attend church-run residential schools.
Will the Pope apologize? Absolutely. Right after the governing body apologizes.
How fitting. Many dubs have a problem with alcohol anyway.
willoughby assembly hall.
1400+ attendance 5 baptised a robust 0.38 growth!.

I didn't go Sunday. My wife didn't tell me. Willoughby is a heck of a drive for me anyway.
